About Rachel
More than three decades ago, I stepped onto a path that would shape my life and work in ways I could not have anticipated.
My training has included Native American spiritual traditions of both North and South America, including study with Native American teachers of North America and the Q’ero medicine people of Peru, as well as the Four Winds Society.
I have also engaged deeply in Vipassana Buddhist practice and academic research in trauma, violence, healing, and peace.
These traditions did not simply inform my work—they helped me heal.
They revealed a path grounded in the restoration of the open heart, the cultivation of awareness, and the capacity to live and serve from a place of clarity, compassion, and strength.
The name Awakened Heart reflects the essence of this work: the understanding that love and compassion are not abstract ideals, but powerful forces for healing ourselves and contributing to a world in need.
